2021 Nissan Titan Pro 4x Review and Off-Road By Matt Barnes

2021 Titan Pro 4x

We recently had the chance to put the 2021 Nissan Titan Pro 4x through its paces. The Titan XD’s little brother is an excellent truck, and can be a great value when purchasing at a discount! Our test model’s MSRP was $61,345 including all options and the destination charges.

Review

Overall the Titan is an excellent truck with great on road manners. The VK56 5.6-liter V8 has the power get up to speed and tow up to 9,310 pounds. The new for 2020 9-speed automatic has smooth yet crisp shifts. It seems to be in the right gear almost all the time. There is no hunting for gears, or delayed gear changes. Nissan has done an excellent job with this combination, putting this powertrain right up there with the best in the 1/2 ton truck market.

Pro 4x Off-Road

The Pro 4x adds capability in the form of more aggressive tires and a locking rear differential. Nissan does allow the driver to turn off traction control in 2wd and 4wd, which isn’t possible in all trucks. This is a nice feature for driving in sand or mud to allow for more wheel spin without cutting engine power. Nissan’s ABLS (Active Brake Limited Slip), which brakes the wheels without traction to transfer power to the wheels with traction, is still engaged with traction control off. The 9-speed transmission helps give the Titan a crawl ratio of 54.4:1, which is great for easing up steep hills or using engine braking to descend. The biggest thing we wish Nissan would change is to allow the rear diff to be locked in 4wd high as well as 4wd low.
