2021 Chevrolet Suburban Rumored To Get Z71 Trim Report:

Chevrolet just pulled the veil off of the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban a few weeks ago, and the extensive revisions that the duo has received for the 2021 model year are very extensive, including the introduction of independent rear suspension to the lineup for the first time ever. But the Z71 trim was arguably the one Tahoe trim level that received our attention the most, with the rugged variant gaining a number of off-road themed touches to set it apart from its more road focused siblings. Chevrolet was silent on whether the trim level would find its way to the bigger Suburban model, but a new report uncovered by the folks at GM Authority appears to suggest that it is indeed in the works, and that it could arrive sooner than expected.

The Z71 nameplate itself is not new, with the moniker making its appearance on various GM utilities and trucks over the years. However, the way it is being presented is brand new, with the Z71 badge now representing a distinct trim level versus being a package created for maximum marketing effect. The statement is to allegedly have come from Chevrolet Marketing Director Bob Krapes, and this would actually make sense considering that Z71 has been a very popular package with customers for roughly several decades. As for what it means for the Suburban? look for this package to incorporate many of the changes that made their debut on the Tahoe. This includes the adjustable air suspension system, extensive use of skid plates, as well as grippy off-road tires. The extra length of the Suburban versus the Tahoe might cause ground clearance and other minor items to be different from the Tahoe, but Z71 exclusive cues such as the revised front fascia, and the monochromatic motif would still be firmly present and accounted for.

But the biggest unknown here at this point is when the 2021 GMC Yukon will be unveiled. While the Cadillac Escalade is scheduled for a February 4th debut in California, it is currently unknown if the model will be unveiled before or after the Cadillac. With the revised auto show season coming into full effect later this winter, a potential unveiling could take place at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show in February. As for the Suburban, we suspect that more information regarding a possible Z71 spec Suburban could trickle out beginning next year, but that depends on whether Chevrolet is even considering the addition of such a model, with the company holding its cards closely to the vest in regards to questions on the subject.
