2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Goes Super Saiyan On The Trail, Pushes Off Road Performance To New Levels Of Fun

The 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X is already shaping up to be a very potent off-road entry for GMC in the off-road pickup segment. Its potent list of upgrades over the standard AT4 model covers all angles and brings the fight to the Ranger Raptor and the Tacoma TRD PRO. But what if you’re a buyer that craves even more performance and a higher level of capability? GMC and American Expedition Vehicles think they might have the answer with the all-new 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition

GMC Version of AEV Performance Shares Similarities With Chevy

At its core, the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition shares many of the basic essentials with the Colorado AEV Edition. The front fascia gets overhauled with a stamped steel front bumper that adds incorporated foglights and can also support a front-mounted winch. The wheel flares are enlarged to help fit the bigger 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory mud-terrain tires, and the rear bumper also gets a stamped steel piece with both ends of the truck featuring heavy-duty recovery points to help tow it out of sticky situations.

The interior of the AT4X AEV Edition doesn’t stray too far from the base AT4X and retains a lot of that model’s equipment. However, buyers will get AEV-adorned headrests, floor liners, and three auxiliary switches that will allow them to hook up additional accessories to the truck, including extra lightning elements and even gear designed to help enhance the truck’s usability in challenging overlanding trips.

Performance for the truck is unchanged, at least under the hood, with all models being powered by the 310 horsepower high output version of the Canyon’s 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which comes bundled with standard all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic. The differences become apparent once you move past the engine with the AEV Edition, featuring a 4.5-inch suspension lift, five Boron underbody skidplates, and beadlock Salta wheels that combine style with rugged durability. Other features include a built-in Baja driving mode that has been upgraded to include a built-in launch control feature.

When Can I Buy One?

GMC and AEV were not ready to discuss payload or towing figures for the AEV variant but look for those items to be roughly similar to what we have seen already in the ZR2 Colorado and its AEV variant. The 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition will make its way to dealerships later this year, with GMC expected to release pricing and other key details closer to its official launch.
