RM Paris 2015 Preview – 1982 Lancia 037 Stradale Directly Influenced F40, 959 and GT-R

The Lancia 037 is a legend to the core. The rally version and its AWD traction were a benchmark for Audi, Ferrari and Porsche when those firms were designing cars as legendary as the Sport Quattro, F40 and 959. No small praise!

The “zero-three-seven” innovated up and down its chassis – with the tech specs below reading like a hypercar must-have list for the 1990s, far after this car was retired from sale for road use. Gas shocks, supercharged four-cylinder engine, ZF box slung out behind the mid-mounted powerplant, dry-sump-lubrication, kevlar-reinforced fiberglass panels, dual fuel tanks, magnesium and titanium components, Brembo brakes,… the list goes on.

The purpose of the 037 Stradale was clear even as the road car launched in April of 1982 in Turin: to beat the world’s best on racing and rally circuits. A more modern and practical design than the Stratos, the 037 also became an 80s style icon in its own right.

This car is for sale from RM Auctions in Paris in two months, and will surely attract the who’s-who of racing icons and collectors for its amazing originality and incredible engineering achievements.

One of perhaps 205 ever produced for the road, this may be the best-available 037 in the world right now. Enjoy this drive video below for the full experience.
