If the goal of the Z/28 is to get some respect for the Camaro’s performance and track speed, the goal of the ZL1 is to get results out on the street.

With 580-horsepower from the supercharged LSA V8, an available automatic with fool-proof launch control, and magnetic shocks as standard — the ZL1 is the easiest performance bargain on the market.

Notably, the way the Z/28 has delivered most of its sheer pace is through weight reduction and detail handling tweaks over the ZL1. Dropped luxuries like the optional Kicker audio and ZL1 subwoofer will be missed, along with all the sound deadening and other luxuries included in the ZL1. The only mandatory option for me would be the upgraded Recaro seats.

Then…. years of joy hitting 3.9-seconds to 60-mph with an ease that defies logic. The ZL1 will ruin you with its sheer speed.

So while the Z/28 might be a GT-R and Porsche-chaser on the racetrack, the ZL1 is the car to rely on at the stoplights. No muss, no fuss. Just winning speed.
