2015 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Predictions: 4Matic AWD for 500HP Twin-Turbo V8 – Benchmarks Are 911T and GT-R

2015 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Predictions: 4Matic AWD for 500HP Twin-Turbo V8 – Benchmarks Are 911T and GT-R

The amount of renderings of the forthcoming AMG GT supercar is staggering.

Luckily, none are quite as hack-y as my aborted effort to graft the AMG Vision Gran Turismo’s nose onto the current 2014 SLS! =]

What happened to the draft renders posted to facebook.com/carrevsdaily last week?

They just… kept getting worse and worse in Photoshop, so I looked to external sources.

The best work so far comes from Car and Driver, of all places, with a really detailed and on-target rendering of the hottest new Mercedes-Benz sportscar in some time.

The key points in the move from SLS to AMG GT are:

  • — cheaper

  • — quicker

  • — more future-style outside

  • — more future-tech inside

The pricing will overlap directly with two key competitors: the Nissan GT-R, which is priced from $100,000 to about $115,000 for 2014 and 2015 — as well as the Porsche 911. The 911 Turbo will be the AMG team’s real benchmark, but undercutting the Porsche on price by perhaps $20,000. The AMG GT should come in with a sticker of about $115,000 versus the 911 Turbo’s base price in the $130,000 ballpark.

Meeting or exceeding the GT-R’s performance with rear-drive will be challenging. The previous SLS also earned a reputation for being too tail-happy to record quick lap times. These factors lead us to believe the upcoming AMG GT will be all-wheel-drive as standard. This is unconfirmed.

The below spy shots from Paultan.org show the full silhouette – because you cannot hide under too much fake bodywork when doing max-attack Nurburgring laps.

Quattroroute magazine of Italy has a lovely set of orange renderings as well. But no full-width LED bar on these, unfortunately!

Previously-mentioned C&D appears to no longer be using MS Paint to make their renderings, and this one is very nice. They gave me their old activation CD of Windows 95 and Office 2003 – which was super nice.
