Volvo has rediscovered all of its best brand attributes – and is bringing them to market this fall with the very promising 2015 XC90 SUV. The slow drip of the launch has taken the form of three outstanding concepts since Frankfurt 2013: the Volvo Concept Coupe, the Concept Estate and the XC Coupe Concept.

All have shown the firm to be on an exceptional path toward restoring its brand luster. This is a company that is poised for greatness — all by going back to its core roots: stylish but subtle, efficient and safe, and comfortable on the North Pole or on the Equator.

Key to this new comfort and luxury mission is the new XC90 interior, the first to debut under this new-found mojo of iconic Swedish brilliance.

But there is no flat-pack IKEA furniture in here: only giant plush thrones trimmed in Swedish-flagged leathers, the latest in high-tech solutions for the portrait-oriented central Nav panel, and even touchscreens for the rear-seat climate controls.

Heads-up-Displays make an appearance, along with a quirky-chic squared-off steering wheel central boss — the airbag-holder.

These ‘squircles’ are part of a flowing and organic luxury that pervades all sides of the cabin, but not in a chintzy way like the Fiat Panda or a few others.

Overall, the seat huge seats and simplified, natural and alloy tones strike the perfect note overall. We can’t wait for the real XC90 and the rest of Volvo’s range to embrace this more-holistic approach to relaxing road comfort and luxury.

The all-new 2015 XC90 is expected soon! The official launch may be in Paris in the Fall, with deliveries at USA Volvo dealers shortly afterward – as in, a few weeks.
