2015 Subaru WRX Hits The Gravel In 70 New Photos in Four Colors

Is there a study that shows how many former WRX owners go on to buy an M3 BMW? I would bet it is a high percentage – both cars are real giant-killers in their own right.

While the WRX stalks prey in the lower realms of budgets and street battles, its real draw comes from its AWD and turbocharged driving manners. It is endlessly entertaining, and a solid choice no matter what the exterior design.

Why do I mention this? I was the proud owner of a 2003 WRX Wagon from 2003-2006!  Yes, the bug-eye one. It was hideous. I hated the nose, but was overcome with boner-tastic desire once behind the wheel.

Same goes today. The new WRX is not nearly the stunning masterpiece last year’s concept foretold. It is awkward and chunky and frumpy in all the wrong places. So it is still a Subaru to the core – and buying one will never appeal to flash-in-the-pan styling buyers. These guys will always fall for a Sciot tC or something else that pretenders like. But the real grins will come from WRX owners.

For 2015, the WRX and WRX STI are barely distinguishable outside, which is great for buyers on a budget. Less great for the STI’s prospects, but time will tell.

Overall, the new WRX is even rumored to be a bit quieter inside than before and — gasp — pip the STI in most 0-60MPH charts.

A great car, to be sure. Save your monies! Supply will be tight so a cash offer is your best bet when they finally arrive to showrooms this summer.
