2014 Rolls-Royce Ghost V-Spec Adds Power + Dark Glamour to SWB and LWB 4-Doors

There almost are no words to properly convey the quality and luxury of every single detail in the 2014 Rolls-Royce model lineup versus normal cars.

Speed and handling during my Wraith press drive in November was very, very impressive – this platform has fantastic poise, but enough movement and sway when being pushed hard to remind you about the speedometer.

Wraith’s fun-to-flog nature is important because Many of the fastback’s sportier elements are introduced for the first time on Ghost V-Spec cars.

I am smiling at my desk as I type. While many fast cars make it seem “easy” to go fast — you still have to really jam the throttle down on most machines.

Rolls-Royces, when driven like normal-powered machines with heavy throttle inputs, absolutely rocket forward in a semi-shocking-but-smooth blast.

I think it is the overall sensory bliss in the brain as you ride around, contrasted with the blown V12 engine’s surprising G-force waking you like a splash of cool water on the face.

The GT-R and the E63 AMG are my fastest drives yet, but the Wraith and new Ghost V-Specification get very close at 4.4-seconds and an estimated 4.6-seconds for the four-doors.

The best part of the Ghost V-Specification is the 30 extra horsepower this twin-turbo V12 sends to its 9.5 by 21-inch rear Goodyear tires.

The second best part is a slight tick toward performance in the ride/handling balance, and a slightly, slightly firmer steering setup. Much of these improvements were originally pioneered for the Wraith, which still is a bit sportier than even the V-Spec Ghost.

The final best part: the style of the Ghost V-Specification makes the most of the unique door styles, the heavy slashes of brightwork framing the windows, and the overall Rolls-Royce proportions.

This V-Specification package is offered in a few special-market setups, like the American, Japanese and Chinese styles. These change a few features to match local preferences.

From that point: configuring a Ghost is a really fabulous process. This configurator seems a bit newer than Wraith’s, but I could be mistaken.

Regardless, configuring a Rolls-Royce of any kind is fabulous entertainment  – delivering more vivid dreams for weeks afterward even to the most humble of car lovers.

Unlike the standard four or five steps (trim, color, interior, packages, accessories –> buy me), the Rolls-Royce commission process is limitless.

Light Red vs Ensign Red?

Rolls splits it into about 20 or 30 menus that get deeper with choices as you move along.

Some very cool sample configurations coming in next article!

ROLLS-ROYCE MOTOR CARS ANNOUNCES GHOST V-SPECIFICATION

Tuesday 7 January 2014, Goodwood

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is delighted to announce the launch of Ghost V-Specification; a limited series of Ghost and Ghost Extended Wheelbase motor cars that will be available for customers to commission from January to June 2014.

“This limited series celebrates one of Ghost’s defining characteristics; the exquisite 6.6 litre Rolls-Royce V12 engine,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “Since its introduction in 2009, an extraordinary marriage of assured presence and remarkable driving dynamics has endeared Ghost to a new generation of highly discerning businessmen and women, ensuring the car’s position as the statement of choice for a growing band of successful entrepreneurs around the world.”

At the heart of the Ghost’s driving experience is its hallmark V12 engine. Acceleration is delivered with a characteristic immediacy and smoothness, propelling occupants from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds with 80% of power available from idle. This unique powertrain is celebrated with a 30bhp / 22kw power increase on all Ghost V-Specification motor cars.

Elegantly applied design touches hint at Ghost V-Specification’s inherent dynamism.

V-Specification motif coachlines finish the exterior paint-scheme whilst customers can either choose from five specially selected exterior colours, or from Rolls-Royce’s 44,000 hue palette.

Optional visible chrome exhausts and 21” part-polished wheels add further expression to the car’s dynamic promise.

The V-Specification motif is echoed around the car’s handcrafted interior through engraving to the treadplates, embroidery to the rear armrest and hand-applied steel inlays to the front multimedia screen lid. The interior is completed with an exclusively designed clock with a black crown surrounding the face.
