217mph LUCID Alpha Speed Car + 2018 LUCID Air at Pebble Beach

One of The most promising Tesla-killer of the next year is Lucid Motors. This beauty is packing up to 1000 horsepower and in its top trim, and a base price of $55k at the bottom. It is a dead-on hit at the Tesla Model S, but upgraded to sci-fi limo spec. Fittingly, Lucid brought out their production prototype as well as this road rocket: the Alpha Speed Car. Wearing wrapped and de-mirrored bodywork and a giant clear plexiglass wing in back, the Lucid Alpha Speed was officially clocked at 217MPH. This is one fast forward to the future!  The below photos from Anthony and JC show the Lucid Motors twins in the semi-real world of Pebble Beach Concours. 2018 Lucid AIR   You May Also Like:2018 LUCID AIR – $60k EV Limo Is Dream Tesla Rival Pretty fascinating new make at the NY auto show this year.  Lucid out of …

2017 Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta – Pebble Beach Debut

It has a name!  We knew this car was special on sight.  Next to the Huayra BC and Huayra Roadster… the Barchetta only somewhat fits in. This is a more brutal, hard-edged design in the front and rear.  Zonda lights also look like nothing else. Yet what is this?  Chopped windshield glass?  Snorkel intake and BC-like tall wing?!  Did we render something like this last summer?  [Yes=] And the coup de grace?  Shrouded rear wheels and extreme underbody aero and rear splitter.  Stunning. Here is Huayra Roadster in front of Barchetta, plus Zonda Cinque which is similar apart from the windshield. The HP Barchetta is just a three-unit special.  Stay tuned for more details on its specs and pricing when available.  We’re lucky to have in-person photos of this beautiful beast via the Pebble Beach Concours concept lawn. 2017 BMW Z4 Concept In 44-Photo Exclusive

The recent design analysis we wrote up over here about the Z4 yesterday is growing.  Today handling some photo edits for JC I found a bevy of new details in the Z4. Things like the lower slash in front fender are as retro as it gets.  THe rest is sheer modern roadster.  It seems so much wider and shorter than the current Z4 in some photos.  But really this is just a product of all-new overhangs and level of rounded corner on both ends.  It is a softer shape.  But marked by a precious few design lines.  These bring the flow and forward-lean of the new Z4 nicely. The car is a soft-top by the way, and the production car is expected like that as well next Summer. Here is a 44-photo walkaround of the Z4 at the BMW Villa in Pebble Beach. 2017 BMW Z4 Concept In 44-Photo Exclusive …

Top 10 SUPRA-Tastic Design Details – Toyota FT-1 Concept + 88 NEW Photos

NEW FT-1 photos?  Yes ALL NEW…? Sortof. We posted these originally on laptop in Santa Cruz, and the results were iffy.  So we went back to the originals, starting again and bringing the FT-1’s details to high-res glory! The most striking things about the FT-1 in person are its captivating beauty, extremely long-hooded proportions, and intense aero detailing. A stunning car. Let’s appreciate its top 10 design details from up close. The design of the FT-1 is visibly alive.  Functional ventwort in a dozen places around all side brings the wild, swooping fenders and hood into sharp relief.  The aero cuts and ground-effect details make the FT-1 come to life.  In isolation, the gorgeous rising beltline and side intake are a great example of complex, next-gen design.  The car looks solid from afar, but mean and lean muscles chiseled up close.    Think of it as a carved-out masterpiece — with functional aero benefits too. …

Ferrari Pebble Beach 2015 – Record-Breaking Classics + New Cali T Special, Sergio and 488GTB!

Ferrari really went all-out for the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours. The marque was specially honored and featured for classics and concours events this year, which is actually a fairly new phenom in the concours circuit. Think of it as perhaps evolving from such a pre-war focus. Along with cars on the lawn and a smashing auction results list, Ferrari brought out its big guns in terms of new metal. Everything but the FXX K and upcoming 488 Spider made an appearance via official displays. (This is in contrast to McLaren mania last year.) The big reveal was a Tailor Made California T with bordeaux vintage-design details. The cabin is a loud pairing of cream and dark rouched leathers. The seats and that huge panel of button-clasp leather is a throw-back to an iconic Italian chair from the 1960s, by the way. You may prefer the Tailor Made custom Cali Turbo …

2016 Lexus GS Refresh Adds GS200t Turbo, More GS350 HP and 4WS on F Sport!

The 2016 Lexus GS made a glamorous oceanfront debut tonight at Pebble Beach! A GS-F-inspired refresh outside includes standard bi-LED lighting and a fresh face for all six variants of the 5-series-fighter. New styling outside is only a part of the equation, though. The GS450h, GS350 and GS350 AWD are joined by a new engine choice: the GS200t with the 241-pony turbo four from the NX200t. Eight-speed automatics all around make the most of the power: even the entry-level turbo sprints to 60-mph in just 7.2 seconds. The GS350 does the benchmark launch in just 5.5 seconds for 2016, thanks to a modest jump of five horsepower to reach 311 overall. Torque is up to 280 pound-feet on the 3.5-liter six, an increase of 22 versus the 2015 model-year. The GS350 AWD is 0.2 clicks behind the rear-drive model, with the GS hybrid matching it at 5.7 seconds. A very …

2015 vs 2014 Porsche 919 Hybrid – LMP1 Racers Compared

2015 vs 2014 Porsche 919 Hybrid - LMP1 Racers Compared 5

Porsche just rolled out its 2015 model-year LeMans P1 car for initial track testing at Yas Marina today, and we see a continuation on most aspects of the 2014 racer. Porsche is characteristically tight-lipped about what has changed since last year, but has confirmed that the turbo V4 powertrain will continue, along with three electric boosters. But while the 2015 car looks very similar to the 2014 contender, you can be sure that there have been extensive studies and engineering under the skin. It takes more than a quick look to find any clear changes outside, but we have identified three primary areas outside that appear to be all-new aerodynamic design solutions. 1. NOSE Up front, versus the 919 Hybrid displayed at the Quail 2014, we see the clearest change overall in the design. Where the 2014 car has a protruding nose cone with three vents in horizontal formation, the …

Concept Flashback – 2003 ItalDesign Moray Corvette By Giugiaro

2003 ItalDesign Moray Corvette By Giugiaro

The Corvette Moray is a slippery one — in many senses of the word! Named after the shimmery Moray eel and styled to glide through this world without disturbing the air, the Moray Corvette from ItalDesign in 2003 is interesting for a few reasons. First off, though, let’s discuss what it is under these sleek new panels and triple glass bubble canopy. It is a C5 underneath — so the guys had their work cut out for them in making it special and respected at Pebble Beach and in Geneva. It is a full reskin from tip to tail, with ultra-smooth and uninterrupted surfaces, curving flow and just a few detail accents like the hood-top wedge and the ultra-slim LED lamps.THat nose is actually quite cool and sexy, with an even-lower leading edge of the hood than the factory Corvette, a razor-sharp splitter in the bumper, and finely-crafted LED …
