Ram Turns the Tailgate On Its Head With All New Split Tailgate, Unveils Ram Chassis Cab Lineup [Pics]

When GM announced the multifuction tailgate for select Sierra and Silverado models, it was no secret that Ram wasn’t going to take the news lying down. It proved this by starting a brief Twitter war with its domestic rivals while also teasing its new gate at the same time. With the dust still settling from the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, Ram has unveiled its new tailgate system, and its certainly a very distinct presentaton when viewed in operation. It might not seem that obvious at first glance, with the Multipro tailgate opening and closing like normal. However, things get strange when the tailgate splits in two, with the gate splitting into two unequal pieces at the push of a button. While this might not seem like a big deal at first glance, this party trick will be a welcome solution to owners that tow trailers, with a normal tailgate being …

Ford Cranks Up Horsepower Wars With 2020 Super Duty, Debuts New 7.3 liter V8

The heavy duty pickup truck wars have never been hotter than they are now. All three major players (Ford GM and Ram) have all unveiled heavily revised offerings that aim to take the HD crown, with the Ram boasting an impressive 1,000 lb ft of torque. Ford didn’t want to be left in the dust, and has formally unveiled the heavily revised 2020 Ford Super Duty. Unlike the other two, Ford is keeping its torque figures close to the cuff, but the exterior styling for 2020 does not stray too far from the basic formula that has made the current generation Super Duty a sales success. Instead, Ford designers opted for a moderate refresh that includes a tweaked front grille that is more prominent than before, as well as a new design for the LED headlights. Small revisions to the front bumper help enhance aerodynamics slightly, while new graphics for …

2019 RAM HD Lineup Boasts 1,000 lb ft of Torque Among Suite Of Updates

Ahead of its highly anticipated debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show tomorrow, Ram has released images and information regarding the 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 HD lineup, and after having a chance to look over some of the specs that Ram has posted in its press release. It’s clear that Ram engineers are truly going for broke when it comes to outdoing their domestic rivals in sheer capability, technology, and refinement. Before we get into some of the other aspects that define the 2019 lineup, lets take a moment to look at arguably the most defining thing about the 2019 Ram HD, the torque figure. Wheras GM and Ford wield engines that still boast torque figures in the mid 800 to 900 lb-ft range, Ram has decided to blow both of its foes out of the water by offering 1,000 lb-ft of torque (being the first mass …

Chevrolet Unveils Beefier, Revamped 2020 Silverado HD

Chevrolet has been keen on reasserting itself in the heavy duty truck segment. With Ford’s Super Duty lineup still at the pinnacle of the segment, and the redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 stealing the spotlight ahead of the reveal of its own HD big brother. Chevy had to act quickly to keep pace, and has unveiled the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD ahead of its February debut.   The exterior of the new Silverado HD will undoubtedly be the first thing that many buyers will notice when they lay eyes on the Silverado HD. Chevy claims that the bodywork is largely exclusive to the HD (only the roof is shared with the 1500,) and that it is supposed to be inspired by heavy machinery. While we are still pondering whether that analogy is indeed accurate, the front grille is massive and is perhaps the biggest in the segment, with the vast space …

Spied: 2020 RAM 2500 & 3500

Ram engineers have been hard at work fine tuning the 2020 Ram 2500 and 3500 to combat rivals such as the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra HD twins, as well as the iconic Ford Super Duty lineup. Based on our recent sighting, it looks like things are progressing quite nicely on that front.   Spotted undergoing freeway testing in Northern Michigan, these heavily camoflauged testers are hiding the bulk of their styling from prying eyes, but look for the 2500 and 3500 to channel much of the 1500’s aesthetic influence, albeit with tweaked lighting elements including bigger reverse lamp inserts. Both testers revealed that they will most likely retain FCA’s Articulink front suspension as well as a five link setup in the rear. The 2500 we encountered also appeared to be a Power Wagon model with the 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires and higher suspension lift being dead giveaways. Our …

2018 RAM 2500 Limited 4×4 Long Box – Road Test Review – By Matt Barnes

When thinking of an HD pickup truck, the first things that come to mind are diesel power and a terrible ride. Only one of those two things is true with the 2018 Ram 2500 Limited Crew Cab 4×4 Long Box. Our test vehicle came with a lot of upgrades and packages, making it one of the most comfortable three-quarter ton trucks we have ever driven. Exterior This was an attractive truck from nearly any angle. It really stood out from all the other vehicles around it due to its enormous size and alluring deep indigo red paint. The Limited Tungsten package added a lot of wonderful exterior details to the truck with 20-inch satin carbon rims, halogen projector headlamps, black tail lamps, tungsten power folding trailer tow mirrors, tungsten badges, and body colored handles, running boards and tailgate badge. The large 285/60R20 tires felt undersized, but that is simply because …

Road Test Review – 2017 Ford F-450 King Ranch Super Duty – By Carl Malek

When it comes to pickup trucks, the old adage “Bigger is better” still dominates the segment. While light duty models like the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will represent the bulk of pickup truck sales, customers in need of a heavy duty workhorse will no doubt be drawn to their heavy duty counterparts. 2017 Nissan TITAN SL 4×4 – Road Test Review

Trucks are all about strength.  Why not have more towing, hauling and running power than you might need?  There is huge peace of mind in knowing you have so much excess capability. At some point, though, that extra muscle makes life more difficult.  That point is arguably between 1500 and 2500 pickups.  Yes, the 2500s have even more giant motors and higher tow ratings.  The new Nissan Titan bridges this gap and aims for 1500 ease of use but near 2500 size and stats. The Titan XD straddles that gap perfectly and the XD option comes standard with the 5.0-liter Cummins TDV8.  This new Titan SL – sans the XD upgrade – is cheaper, nimbler and slightly quicker than its big XD brother.  Without sacrificing any of the road presence or curb appeal of the gigantic XD. Think of the The Rock as the XD versus Vin Diesel for the …
