2018 SALAFF C2 Supercar Concept – Best of Pebble Beach – 30-Photo Gallery

Very rare double best-of winner for the Concept Lawn of 2018 Pebble Beach Concours! The Salaff C2 wins most arresting face by a mile, and also scores wildest concept tail! Very fantastic design ideas virtually pouring from all the C2’s aggressive cutlines. Carlos Salaff is already a favorite designer for many car buffs.  He is the man behind the ill-fated Mazda Furai concept, which was a 450HP rotary LMP2 racecar as well as 2040 design preview. This latest exercise is a grass-roots, hand-crafted effort from the artist’s base in Italy.  Humble-ish underpinnings from a Gallardo do nothing to tamp my enthusiasm for this brilliant machine. Favorite elements include the impossibly slim headlamps in the wedge wheel shrouds. The door mirrors are ecquisite and the engine cover in back leaves me breathless!  The tail with its flat-plane highspeed spoiler is brutal and elegant at the same time. Just notice how much …

2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback SE – Road Test Review – By Ben Lewis

You know those commercials for Overstock.com? (no, we’re not getting a free couch for this). The ones where people are judged – sometimes unfairly – for their names. Well, the Corolla has the same problem. We say Corolla, and you probably think, small, supremely reliable, pleasant, good value. But exciting? Meh.  One small step for a Corolla and One giant step for Corolla-kind. Previously, the formerly known as Scion iM was renamed, and the stylish little hatchback became the Corolla IM. And it was a nice looking, decent performing hatch with loads of features – typical Scion. A nice start. But for 2019, we have an all-new Corolla hatch (sold in Europe as the Auris!). And with the head folks at Toyota dedicated to infuse some performance and passion throughout the line (See our review of the new Camry), we were excited to see what the new model has to …

2018 Nissan GTR50 Concept By ItalDesign – Goodwood FoS 2018 Debut

Very interesting collaboration here where ItalDesign was tasked with a re-skin a Nissan GT-R fully, inside and out, as a celebration of the car’s 50-year legacy. More than a reskin, even. Re-imagining? Reboot? Yes. Possible hints at next-gen model expected for the 2020 model year?  Yes of course.  But mostly this exercise just celebrates the GT-R’s essence and moves the vehicle noticeably upmarket.  Even as a $100k car the GT-R does lack the class and panache of true supercars, in some respects, with the current model’s workmanlike exterior and interior. How to go high-fashion without dulling the GT-R’s ace in the hole — its insane speed? Send one to Italy for GG’s crew to vamp up! The gorgeous results speak for themselves.   2018 Nissan GTR50 Concept By ItalDesign You May Also Like:Design Analysis – 2018 BMW M8 Concept GranCoupe – Goodwood FoS 2018 BMW needs some new halo vehicles …

Design Analysis – 2018 BMW M8 Concept GranCoupe – Goodwood FoS 2018

BMW needs some new halo vehicles at the top of its lineup.  Both to compete with the rockstar AMG GT as well as subdue all the M-car loyalists who despise the i8. The new 8 series serves that purpose nicely. And before it has even arrived — we have a new variant with totally unique styling and details. Oh, and two extra doors.  The M8 GranCoupe concept tries to keep the Mustang-like raciness of the 850’s roofline while squeezing in two seats back there.  Headroom!?  Who cares! How is this different than the current M6 GC, you ask? Scale. This M8 GC is enormous.  Think Rolls-Royce proportions. The M8 GC also nicely teases the next generation of BMW M car designs.  We’d bet a good chunk of cash that the 2020 M4 will share this face and hopefully its giant, wrap-around ducktail rear spoiler!! There are interesting details in this …

2019 Mercedes-AMG GT63S – First Look – 2018 Goodwood FoS

Talk about a tough car to judge from the renderings! The new AMG GT 4-door is quite polarizing from all sides.  Is it a super-CLS or a proper supercar with four doors? This top 63 S model is certainly the top of the ranks.  Its giant chrome grille bars are flagship Mercedes of the future, while its giant bright tailpipes and huge upright rear wing are quite the statement pieces. Say what you will about its globby surfacing…. this machine looks like an escaped DTM car in motion at Goodwood. Here’s a photo flyaround courtesy of James Crabtree — who brought back 5000 photos from his Goodwood 2018 adventure!! 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT63S You May Also Like:2019 McLaren SENNA GTR – Best of Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018 The McLaren Senna is already such an insanely aggressive and unique new hypercar.  Its looks instantly make the entire Lambo and Ferrari lineups …

2018 Volvo V90 T6 AWD Inscription – Road Test Review – By Ben Lewis

Before the SUV, the Minivan, the Crossover, and SAV (how many ways can they slice this pie?) there was the station wagon. And there has, and always will be, those faithful to a vehicle that gives you all the car-like goodness you could want with the hauling ability of an SUV. Really, no vehicle looks cooler with a surfboard strapped to its roof. And within the “wagons ho!” crowd, there’s a special place just for Volvos. Like this Volvo V90 wagon. It stands apart from other wags as Volvo’s always have, and yet breaks new ground in a way Volvo’s never really did before. Let’s start with the looks. Is this the most beautiful Wagon ever made? We think so. I mean, just look at it. A pity that it’s going to be a rare sight, then. You won’t find one sitting at the Volvo dealer – they have to …

2018 McLaren SENNA – P15 Ultimate Series is Raw Purists Special

McLaren’s P1 successor is here and it is shocking, to say the least. An unfinished looking cutjob of a design statement is actually on purpose.  Senna escews beauty in favor of raw, purist principles.   Dimensions shink-wrap the driver, as does the open-air cockpit with glass doors.  Fully free-standing front fenders make a slice of air to wrap the cockpit and the reverse + scoop vents ahead and behind the butterfly doors. Light weight, strict aero and performance like a trackbound rocket.  Check out the first photoset and official details from McLaren below.   2018 McLaren SENNA The McLaren Senna: the ultimate road-legal track car 10 Dec 2017 New Ultimate Series is the most extreme McLaren road car yet Bears the name of legendary Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna, honouring its status as the ultimate McLaren track car, legalised for the road At 1,198kg (2,641lbs), the lightest McLaren road car since …

2018 Lexus LC500 – Supercar of the Year – Road Test Review

No test car here at CRD has created more of a stir than this Lexus LC500. Long-lost pals sought out rides. The Cars ‘n Coffee crowd was enchanted LC even stirred wild thumbs-ups from other drivers on the road. Nobody loved this next-generation Lexus supercar more than its driver, though. This all-new platform started life on a mission to sink the engine lower and much more mid-ship than any Lexus before.  The results not only lighten the handling mood dramatically, but they also sharpen the turn-in radically. A new 10-speed automatic joins the thrilling 5.0-liter V8 from the GS-F and RC-F to make for a Lexus with scalpel-sharp performance on every metric.  Our tester picked the Torsen limited-slip diff upgrade in back instead of the also-available 4-wheel-steering option. In all its forms, LC500 is a car with manners like a proper luxury GT when your mood is calmer.   Ultra-high-fashion materials …

2018 INFINITI QX30 Sport – Road Test Review w/ Performance Drive Video!

We start the drive video review asking a serious question: does this Euro Infiniti QX30 belong in the USA? This baby Infiniti has two variants on sale in America: the crossover-ish QX30 and QX30 AWD.  Then there is the wild cousin: the QX30 Sport.  Lowered ride height.  Performance mods and gloss black finishes galore.  Stance to make the most of the double-clutch automatic and turbo motor from Mercedes-Benz. Premium compact five-doors are big business on the continent.  Instead of trading up to a sedan after the Golf/Focus class, owners will shell out big cash to get into the A3, 1 series and A-Class. They bring a far better drive experience, upscale cabins and hefty amount of badge prestige.  Perhaps building loyalty with luxury-car buyers of tomorrow at the same time. In the USA, however, those main rivals are notably absent in five-door hatchback form. QX30 then rivals Mini Cooper Countryman, …
