Refreshed 2020 Audi TT-RS To Debut In New York

It’s not too often that an automaker is tasked with making changes to arguably an already perfect offering, but the engineers at Audi were assigned with the unenviable challenge of updating what is arguably one of their best performance offerings for the 2020 model year, the TT-RS, and thankfully, they were able to make just enough changes to help it stay fresh, but without tainting the formula that has helped make the TT-RS a compelling buy among well heeled enthusiasts. At first glance, the changes might be hard to spot, with the 2020 TT-RS retaining a lot of the purposeful …

Hyundai Unveils Radically Redesigned 2020 Sonata Sedan Ahead of New York Auto Show Debut

When Hyundai first unveiled the sixth generation Sonata several years ago, it was immediately apparent that this new sedan was willing to take risks, and go places where its bland and drab predecessor was just unwilling to go. The rest of the industry noticed, and immediately did a double take when they saw just how far the Sonata was willing to go to try and woo over buyers that might have otherwise walked into the nearby Toyota or Honda dealer to buy benchmarks like the Camry and the Accord. However, like a one hit wonder that fails to solidify their …

2019 Subaru Forester Teased Ahead Of New York Debut

Subaru’s Forester CUV has become a key cog in the Japanese firm’s plans for sales dominance in recent years. Naturally, this high degree of popularity means that Subaru engineers had a very slim margin of error when they were creating the 2019 Subaru Forester. The trickle of teaser images the company has released has not revealed too much about their efforts, but the latest image does provide a glimpse into its all new tailgate. A key change is the pincer shaped rear taillight which is a cue carried over from the Viziv series of concept cars. The daylight setting of …

The standalone launch of the GENESIS brand is in full swing: unique showrooms, unique models of course, and a unique mission to snag high-margin sales from Lexus and BMW. The offshoot is one that has mixed history: Acura is a constant drain on Honda with little upside, as is Infiniti on its Nissan parent. Mazda’s mooted entry with the Amati luxury brand was killed before its launch model, the Millenia, even broke cover. Why? The costs are astronomical and the returns are — as proven — less than a sure thing. Hyundai’s rise from punchline to top-five global automaker in …

Never-before sold at auction, Janis Joplin’s acid-trip Porsche 356C is headed to the RM Sotheby’s 2015 sale in NYC this December. Janis was a consummate scene-ster and party girl — living and defining the Haight/Ashbury scene in San Francisco throughout the 1960s while performing at tiny coffee-shop type venues. The tiny gigs often paid not in cash, but just free drinks. The bay area 1960s ideals of peace and love went national and eventually global by the end of the decade, by which time Janis was finally enjoying commercial success for her unhinged and anti-establishment sound. When the 2020 Subaru Legacy first made its appearance at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show in February, the first question on the world’s mind was when the Subaru Outback going to make its eventual appearance? The long running wagon version of the Legacy has always been a key partner for its sedan sibling, and the company has revealed that the Outback will indeed make its debut at the 2019 New York Auto Show on April 17th. Subaru’s teaser images don’t reveal too much about what kind of design defines the newest iteration of the Subaru Outback, but the Outback does …

Hyundai Sheds More Light On Upcoming Venue CUV With New Sketches

When Hyundai first revealed that they were releasing another utility model in time for the 2019 New York Auto Show, we were curious to see what exactly the Korean car giant had in mind. While the original batch of teaser images preferred to showcase the Venue’s design inspiration (versus the CUV itself,) this time around, Hyundai released several teaser sketches that help shed just a bit more light on what we can expect from the Venue when it eventually makes its debut in the flesh. From what we can see, it appears that the Venue will share a lot of …

Toyota Extends Hatchback Magic To Yaris Subcompact for 2020 Model Year

When Toyota recently launched the Corolla hatchback, we were pleased to see that the Japanese auto giant was still willing to give U.S. buyers a chance to own a tidy five door amid the relentless tidal wave of CUV and SUV demand that has already swallowed up other hatchback entries like the Focus and Fiesta. With the Corolla doing well in sales, Toyota has decided to extend the love to the smaller Yaris sedan, and has gifted the Mazda infused subcompact a hatchback variant of its own for 2020. Unlike the Corolla hatchback, the smaller Yaris is essentially a reskinned …

Hyundai Teases Venue Compact CUV Ahead of Big Apple Debut

Typically when an automaker unveils an important model, they usually pick the perfect venue to help give it maximum impact and appeal. The New York Auto Show is no exception, but in the case of Hyundai, the Korean automaker has decided to flip the script, and has formally begun teasing a new small compact CUV that will make its debut in the Big Apple.   Taking inspiration (perhaps a bit too literally) from the venue it will be debuting in, the new model (dubbed the Venue) will be the smallest Hyundai utility offering, and it will be positioned below the …

Dodge Unveils Widebody Charger Concept, Could Tease Production Model

The fantasy of a Dodge Charger widebody variant has always resonated strongly in the minds of some enthusiasts, especially those that already enjoy the charms and unique curb appeal that defines the Challenger widebody. Dodge officials have listened to these ambitious dreams, and has unveiled a special Charger widebody concept. Unveiled at Spring Fest (an annual gathering for LX platform enthusiasts) Dodge claims that the concept is a near production prototype, which could mean that it could feasibly make its production debut after the 2020 model year. Visually, the concept retains alot of its Charger DNA, with the key change …

Cadillac Unveils CT5 Sedan, Replaces CTS and ATS In Sedan Lineup

Ahead of its debut at the 2019 New York Auto Show, Cadillac has formally unveiled the 2020 CT5 sedan online, with the new model showing how commited Cadillac really is to simplifying its sedan lineup in the wake of increasing CUV demand. This step towards simplifying the lineup means that the CT5 will resurrect its role as a tweener offering for buyers, with the car replacing both the 3-Series sized ATS sedan, as well as the bigger CTS, which also initally performed this same duty when the second generation version first debuted back in 2008. We are still scratching our …

2019 Ginetta Akula – Underdog Debut Pips Geneva Hypercar Elite

We’re fans of underdog supercar maker Ginetta for a few reasons.  First of all is that they are actual racers. Most of the supercars that debut today will not have bona-fide tracktime in their futures, while this Akula certainly does. And secondly, for the functionality of their approach to sports cars. The spirit of the new Akula’s design vaguely recalls TVR from the wild old days.  This is not a machine that went  through dozens of focus groups and design evolutions.  This is a murderous slasher film in CFRP — all vents and intakes and outlets throughout the entire lower …

Lexus Raises Ante On LC Luxury With All New LC Convertible Concept

It’s no secret that Lexus has been wanting a large convertible since the demise of the SC convertible. The last production car to boast a standard tape cassette player brought open top luxury in a comfortable and roomy package that has been missed by some Lexus owners since it was axed. The LC coupe made a splash three years ago when it debuted at the North American International Auto Show, but its sleek and futuristic design seemed incomplete without a drop top conversion. Lexus has answered this calling by formally unveiling the LC convertible Concept ahead of its debut next …

Originally starting its run as the Hyundai Genesis, the launch of the new brand forced the luxury laden Hyundai to transform into the newly renamed G80, and up its luxury and performance credentials at the same time. But can the G80 still stand out from not only the bigger G90 sedan? but also a field of opulent entries? or …

V12 Engines Axed For Mercedes-AMG Models

The quest for a greener commute has caused many automakers to rethink their long term plans for a multitude of factors. In the case of Mercedes-Benz, tightening emission regulations has finally forced the German car giant to squeeze its venerable V12 engine from its AMG performance lineup. The revelation came out during a recent interview the folks at Autoblog had with AMG boss Tobias Moers at the New York Auto Show last week. When asked on the subject, Moers revealed that in his opinion a power plant like that isn’t necessary for future AMG offerings, especially ones unique to the …

2017 Dodge Challenger T/A – Road Test Review – By Ben Lewis

Some cars just take you back. And the 2017 Dodge Challenger is one of them. It’s big, it’s bold, it’s positively bad-ass. What’s not to love? The design is familiar, the Challenger hasn’t changed much since it was re-introduced 2008. There have been three or four times in my lifetime when Lincoln Motor Company seemed like it was really on to something.  It had a lot to prove: we only knew it as the Town Car company.  Certainly not a credible luxury contender. The Jag-look Continental of the late 1990s had us doing double takes, even if it was a total boat and deeply FWD from behind the wheel.  Or when the first Nav arrived. Then when the LS sedans came out.  A luxed-up, 4-door Mustang for Lincoln sounded great! But these moments for Lincoln were one-offs. Flukes, almost, in …

The 570S has certainly done a great job carving a niche for itself when compared to the pricier, and much-angrier 650S, thanks to its newfound levels of practicality as well as its lower pricing. 1894 SILSBY Horse-Drawn Steam Fire Engine – RM Auctions Amelia Island 2016 Highlights

Motorized, steam fire engines were some of the highest-tech wagons on the roads between 1850 and the dawn of the motorcar 50 years later. The need for mechanized, high-volume water pumps to extinguish urban and industrial accidents was what drove such huge innovation at the time.  These high-tech water wagons didn’t know at the time that their steam-engine solutions would spur internal combustion.   For this machine, the steam boiler drove a turbine, which then drove a water pump. Hoses attached to the input would pull water through the system and out the main fire-fighting nozzles and ladders at high pressure and volume. …
