Lexus leaves the SUVs home, brings LF-Z concept and wide range of cars to Pebble Beach

The big reveal for Lexus was the new LF-Z concept reveal. The LF-Z is another BEV put out to test the waters, reception by the public. It features the now-landmark grill, but with no interlaced openings, just the flat white front, but does feature an illuminated Lexus badge. Along with the concept, the already established LC 500 convertible, RC-F and IS F-sport were in attendance for display as well. One featured display was the RC-F race car. Tagline: Seek and Destroy, which is on the surface the antithesis to the usual Lexus persona. But a good looking race car, nonetheless. …

2021 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Concept Lawn Overdose 300 photos

The concept lawn. What a concept. It’s the nucleus around which the entire Monterey Car Week orbits. It anchors the past, present and future of automobiles in the chosen few cars set on this practice putting green. All of these cars are or have touch-points that reach back for inspiration, and build upon beautiful and sometimes radical visions of the future. One such radical future-think was the Audi Skysphere. It was conceived to extend or contract a foot in length. Project Sandbox is the perfect example of all worlds colliding. Part 911/959, part rally car. The key to doing the …

Aston Martin goes the perfect green for 2021 Pebble Beach Concours

To the naked eye, it’s arguably the most diverse color for a car maker’s palette. Green. Add to that today’s connotation, and the mere use of the term and color is tricky to negotiate. I for one am not a fan of most chosen greens, save for the 18th one that Aston Martin’s 2021 display booth faces. That being said, there is something to  behold in person, as your brain takes in this particular green that Aston has donned these fantastic cars with. They literally had to snap me out of mesmerizing stare, as they were preparing to host a …

Mercedes brings its own vintage plaid to Pebble Beach and the next SL as well

Sorry, but the SL preview was strictly eyes-only. There were two notable, new features never found on any previous SLs, and both of which are aft of the front seats. More on that later. But if you could not make it to Monterey Car Week, and shame of you, make it a bucket list item, then here are my photos of the Mercedes pavilion this year. Champagne as always is free flowing at so many events, if that helps anyone motivate to get to the events.

2021 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Dawn Patrol 140+ Car Gallery

2021 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Dawn Patrol is the pre-dawn arrival of the show field cars. Only the die-hard PBC fan will get up at 3 am, and make the trek from far-flung lodging, and negotiate the labyrinth of barricaded Monterey back roads. But, hopefully the result of the best photos here of Dawn Patrol are to everyone’s liking. My highest thanks to photographer Sherman Chu who provided me the best Dawn Patrol guidance a few years ago.     Featured image : © Kimball Studios

2021 Lamborghini LPI-800-4 Makes Thunderous Debut At Pebble Beach 2021

Lamborghini made waves when it revealed that it was reviving the legendary Countach for the 2022 model year. While the model will be an extremely limited special, it will also be a key piece of company history with the Countach being the first production Lamborghini hybrid model ever produced. The exterior styling is a welcome time warp to the past with plenty of classic Countach cues on hand including the rectangular headlights as well as the simple curves and angles that adorn the bodywork. Performance for this particular model will come from the Sian concept’s 6.5 liter V12. This engine …

Audi Skysphere Concept at Pebble Beach 2021

The Skysphere Concept is an unusual and highly experimental design ethos from Audi.  In being so very unlike their current range it seems to make a bold statement about the elegance of cab-backward, front-engine GTs.  Or at least those are the proportions, but that long hood is surely filled with batteries and motors in this case. None of Audi’s current quattro-intensive range approaches this level of dash-to-axle ratio and this ultralong hood is a striking addition.  The glasshouses for the front and rear lighting elements are interesting and the tactility of the 3D badge up front is quite something. It …

Pebble Beach 2021 – Genesis X Concept Gallery

This sexy design from Genesis embellishes the look of the upcoming G70 production car — a fave around here — with a mean widebody stance and some BMW Batmobile 635CSi vibes.   This two-door’s tail is a thing of beauty in itself and the entire design’s proportions and details are dramatic and sexy.   The roofline looks a bit practical versus the hypercars this Genesis X sits among at the Pebble Concept Lawn but this EV is still a stunner nonetheless. Multitude of Monzas at Pebble Beach

Why would Ferrari bring so many Monza’s to Pebble Beach? Might they be performing a “Concours Delivery” to their clientele? Dozens of Monzas were covered and numbered, but some were showing some ankle, and a bit more. How cool would it be to say that your new Ferrari Monza was shown, and delivered to you, at Pebble Beach? Very. Here are a few shots, from outside the cordoned zone for onlookers and gawkers.

Pebble Beach Concept Lawn Sneak Peeks from Saturday Night Preparations

The veil just doesn’t get lifted magically at any event, including the always prestigious and hotly anticipated annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance main attraction; the concept law. For tomorrow’s dawn patrol throngs, workers must toil many hours to get everything into place. Some early reveals are always possible. Tonight is nothing different. An evening stroll in the jam packed, bustling 17-mile drive, down the stairs and we see a couple of cars that not everyone might have seen before, or at least not on these shores. Acura brought the swansong NS-X Type S, and it’s very well put together, looking …

Half of the show is the very long lines of traffic to get to the event, with buyers and sellers driving a fantastic rolling supercar and classic vintage show quite literally. Very fantastic design ideas virtually pouring from all the C2’s aggressive cutlines. Carlos Salaff is already a favorite designer for many car buffs.  He is the man behind the ill-fated Mazda Furai concept, which was a 450HP rotary LMP2 racecar as well as 2040 design preview. Competing with the likes of the Porsche 356 and other micro-lights was a tough game in the late 1950s.   Competitiveness in this era meant this Coventry Climax ran just a shouting 96-horsepower four, with all its weight mid-center ahead of the driver.  This played out on track nicely versus the rear-engined Porsches of the era.  Totally different but both very pure track setups. Granted, this little bugger might have had its gullwing doors blown off by a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL racer of the same era, whose big …

Getting a car onto the Pebble Beach Concours lawn is mostly objective: the car has to fit the category and be absolutely flawless in every way. But moving from the fairway and onto the greens where the awards are given? That is all about subjective appeal — with metrics like “elegance” telling you that winning is largely about the mood of the year and the slinky aesthetic of the cars in question. All this seems silly until you spend time with a car like this. Elegant is one of the first things that comes to mind, and sticks with you …

1954 Ferrari 375MM is 2014 Pebble Beach Best of Show This Ferrari has been all over the car news world since winning Best of Show. We know it is beautiful and one-of-a-kind since being reshelled as a coupe for one special owner. The tag itself is car-friendly. This is the classic auto world’s highest honor, but every one of the cars there is an absolute obsession and treasure for its owners. Great cars. The Best “of” show is a bit more human than the “Best in Show” label on many other pursuits.     1954 Ferrari 375 MM is 2014 …

2015 INFINITI QX80 Pebble Beach Photos + Specs, Options, Pricing, Colors

UPDATED 9.1.14 with 2015 QX80 Photos from Pebble Beach   When planning this article, I cannot help but think of the QX80 is a ‘reliable Range Rover,’ a smoother and better-handling Land Cruiser, or an Escalade with actual class. But throwing sand never wins any points in life. So let’s stick to the high road with this newly-renamed QX56 model for 2014. A few extra packages enter the fray for 2014, including a huge number of laser/radar and sonar-based active safety elements as standard — and even more with the optional Tech Package. 400-horsepower through a seven-speed automatic continues with …

1938 Tatra T97 Aerodynamic Sedan at Pebble Beach 2014 Concours – 54 Gorgeous Photos

Snapping a full round of this red Tatra T97 Aero was a rare treat on Pebble Beach Concours Sunday. Very early in the morning, the sun was shining bright for the first time of the week. Tatra was a special marque invite for the 2014 Concours – in a mission to seek more variety and representation from unconventional marques. We know very little about the Tatra T97, in truth, but adore it almost instantly. Perhaps it is the long-running Volkswagen Beetle passion, or its flare for the aerodynamic… but the Tatra T97 is very charming. In many ways, the Tatra …

Some big names in the below five-pack of the first deliveries of the BMW i8 at Pebble Beach! They include racing moguls Roger Penske and Rick Hendrick, among other luminaries. We would vote heavily in favor of the black finish — which is simply amazing, as we can see here. Well ordered, Thomas Keller! In what is certainly a feel-great moment for the BMW as well as the Pebble Beach Foundation charity — the one-off BMW i8 Pebble Beach Concours edition racked up a stunning $825,000 sale price at the Gooding & Co. 2014 auction. The price multiple of 6.11X over the BMW i8’s $135,000 retail total is surely not just from the custom-fitted Louis Vuitton luggage or dark-matte grey paint. 1955 Aston Martin DB3S Earns $5.5M At Gooding Pebble Beach 2014

$5.5-million is a very high tally for any Aston Martin, but this 1955 DB3S is surely a deserving specimen. As both a show car and a racecar, the DB3S is a stunning beauty and a timecapsule of design in the 1950s. The chassis design was completed by a famed Austrian engineer with experience designing Auto Union racers in the 1930s, while the exterior design by Frank Feeley is perhaps Mr. Feeley’s finest-ever work. Feeley was a Lagonda man until joining Aston with Lagonda’s buyout in 1947, where his ultra-luxury model focus was shifted to racecars. One amazing element of the …

Green/Green/Green 2014 McLaren P1 Proves The Golden Rule at Pebble Beach

The golden rule being: he who has the gold makes the rules! This P1 is certainly one of the most outrageous hypercars of 2014 – customized by McLaren Special Operations to have a green tint to every surface, even the exposed carbon-fiber sections and all over the cabin, of course. It is quite polarizing, which is a polite way of saying many people absolutely hated it. But some really loved it as well. In my opinion, the wheels are a trouble area. Flip those to white or dark grey/black — and this car might have the naysayers begging for a …

2015 Lexus LS460 F Sport Crafted Line – Pebble Beach Debut in 30 New Photos

Updated 8.27.14 The LS is perhaps the most enhanced by Lexus’s 2015 Crafted Line enhancements, but this is an entirely subjective assessment. In fact, every Lexus bar the CT200h and the new NX crossover are greatly benefitting from these new style upgrades. The LS benefits both in practice with the new grille and black wheels looking stellar on this luxury limo flagship, but also in theory.
