2016 Toyota LAND CRUISER Sports Fresh Design and Big Tech Upgrades

Toyota’s loveable Land Cruiser is fresh for 2016 with a variety of cool updates to the style, performance and luxury inside!

The Land Cruiser is all new from the A-pillars forward, with a much larger and truckier grille than the current model. The two-piece intake element now includes thick chrome bars extending into the headlamps. It is clearly a much more butch appearance all around, thanks to that grille and the new domed hood. The upper hood now wears a deep rounded edge between the engine cover and the fenders. A dip in the middle of the hood flows back from the extra Big T badge.

New quad projector beams look chic and functional in the top of the lamps. Down below the chrome grille bar, new LED DRLs glow white in their own lamp area. It is certainly unique and striking, if a bit hard to assess from the adventure photos released so far.

Around back, more fresh details and some light-pipe LED brake lamps are also classy, befitting the Toyota brand flagship above even the larger Sequoia.

The Land Cruiser also debuts the first-ever eight-speed automatic in a Toyota (versus a Lexus..). This is big news for improving the launch urgency and fuel economy of the standard 5.7-liter, 381-horsepower V8.

No hard stats on pace are yet available, but the Land Cruiser will have to work miracles to become as quick as the 6.2-second Escalade eight-speed automatic. We estimate a half-second off the Land Cruiser’s previous 7.3-second sprint to 60-mph. A one or two MPG upgrade for is also in the mix thanks to the two extra gears.

Inside, new leather colors, the latest Entune and MID cluster displays, and a host of active safety features are now included. Adaptive cruise, city braking and even auto highbeams join all suite of parking aids and 360 cameras. A new steering wheel and center console/stack integrate all the new tech smoothly — including a new wireless Qi charging station will juice up any phone equipped with their slim iPhone or Android cases, while extra USB power ports also handle the task for all seats.

The back seat now ups the comfort and tech to Lexus levels via a standard dual entertainment system. 10 inches for each screen! It looks really comfy in that second row in the new Terra semi-aniline leather — and will ride extra smooth thanks to the 18-inch alloys on the Land Cruiser versus the 20’s and 21’s of its LX570 sibling.
