All-New 2016 Chevrolet #CamaroSix – Spec Renderings + May Launch Event Signup

camaro six teaser renderingThe first details on the upcoming 2016 Chevrolet Camaro are starting to trickle out of Detroit — with two teaser images today showing the new front subframe and the new 6.2-liter V8’s special Tri-Y exhaust manifold.

Not too illuminating on what the car will be like — but there are a few important snippets:

— the exterior and interior will be all-new with no carry-over panels

— the front and rear suspensions are also claimed to be all-new versus the current 5th-generation car

— there is some rumble about packaging and dimension changes for the new Camaro.

Will it be smaller or larger? We do not know for certain. Nor do we know if it will be lighter than the current car.????????????????????? camaro-six-gallery-1

Going shorter seems like the most logical step for the Camaro in 2016. An improvement in packaging (thanks to a more-compact rear suspension?) might even be able to make more space in the back seat and easier visibility from up front — even with a wheelbase chopped a few inches from the current machine.

Overhangs are also likely to be even shorter than they are today, with a longer hood also part of the plan.

It all sounds exciting!  Cannot wait to see what the next-gen Camaro will be like. The current car is awesome to drive in every engine — even the RS V6, long a dog at the pony show — so the next car will up the ante in the style, tech and speed fronts.

The new Camaro will be revealed on May 16th at a special CamaroFest in Detroit’s Belle Island. This is likely to mean there will not be a ‘concept’ of the design beforehand. Just the real-deal, tire-shredding 2016 Camaro SS among 1000 of its biggest fans, right in its hometown.2016 camaro teaser 2016 Chevrolet Camaro RENDERING 12012 Chevrolet Miray Concept

If you have a Camaro and want to attend the event, you can!  It is free and open to first-come, first-serve signups. But those without a Camaro to bring along will be second-priority to owners who will arrive by Camaro.

A quick video teaser shows the exhaust note of the new 6.2-liter V8 with its new-shape exhaust manifold adding drama to the rev character of the motor. This most-American of sounds can also be your ringtone via the below download choices.

2016 Camaro is All-New from the Bowtie Up

70 percent of architectural components unique to the Gen 6 Camaro

DETROIT – The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will be a truly all-new car – from the grille’s bowtie to the rear spoiler.

In fact, only two parts carry over from the fifth-generation model: the bowtie emblem on the taillamp panel and the SS badge.

The Gen 6 Camaro is based on General Motors’ award-winning Alpha architecture. Designed to compete with premium European brands, Alpha offers exceptional driving dynamics and refinement, as well as a balance of mass and stiffness necessary for a world-class performance car.

“Our global engineering team is incredibly passionate about Camaro, and they sweated all the details to make Gen 6 the best Camaro we could possibly put into the hands of our customers,” said Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president, Global Product Development.

“Alpha provided a strong foundation, but more than 70 percent of the components are unique to the Gen 6 Camaro, including exterior and interior dimensions, an all-new interior, front and rear suspension, and powertrain components,” he said. “The minute you see – and hear – the Gen 6, you know it’s a Camaro, from the stance to the driving experience to the sound of the Small Block V-8.”

From the strong Alpha foundation, the Camaro team made the most of every component to create a worthy successor for the Gen 5 Camaro, which has been America’s best-selling performance car for five consecutive years.

The front structure, for example, was developed specifically for Camaro. It is lengthened, to create the dash-to-axle ratio necessary for car’s iconic profile, and widened to provide the desired track width for stable, confident cornering. In addition, 20 percent of the 6.2L LT1 V-8 engine has been tailored to fit the Camaro’s packaging, including new, tubular “tri-Y”-style exhaust manifolds.

Chevrolet will introduce the all-new, 2016 Camaro on Saturday, May 16, during a special public event at Detroit’s Belle Isle park.
