2014 Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf Unveiled in Dubai with DB10-Influencing Nose

Updated 12.5.14

Well, big day for Aston Martin! The new DB10 was front and center for the SPECTRE cast announcements, with director Sam Mendez pulling back the silk cloth on Aston’s future sportscar.

Not a moment too soon!?

Aston has been endlessly jabbed for their reheated styles in the last few years. But what we all may have forgotten is that we *love* that current style.

But time moves onward and so does Aston.

The new DB10 makes much more sense in the context of the limited-release Lagonda by Q Branch for 2014. This car is absolutely intense from many angles, not least its nose and front three-quarter. Definited by an ultra-low beltline and roof, the Lagonda is striking. But who knew it would be such a core part of future Aston style.

Many thought it was a Middle Eastern special, which… traditionally…. has not been any car brand’s finest hour.

Adeem Investments, Prime Wagon and Investment-DAR of Kuwait are winding down their share of Aston Martin ownership (as they go headfirst into Syria, it is rumored) — so perhaps this ‘Taraf’ model is a parting gift from Gaydon to a handful of UHNW backers and brand loyalists.

We do not know for certain. Nor are we sure about the design appeal of the DB10’s nose, at least so far.

But will InterBrand’s darling Aston suddenly go back to duckling from current swan?

Not likely. Beauty will always be in the brand’s core ethos.

Taraf, by the way, appears to mean “taking a side, or showing allegiance.” So perhaps Aston misses the soft touch of the desert Kings versus the blighted northern Italy that Investindustrial calls home?

All this is really just conjecture. Aston with Andy Palmer at the helm will be very, very successful indeed — whatever the next cars look like.

Regretfully for some, the Lagonda will only be available to buyers in the Middle East. As a low-volume model like the One-77, the Lagonda is sure to be one of the rarest of all luxury four-doors.

Breaking news with a confirmation from Aston-Martin on the 2015 Bespoke Super Saloon project – which is officially the new Lagonda saloon car.

Inspiration for the design is said to tie directly to the 1976 Lagonda saloon below in original and VirtualModels.org’s dragster prototype.

Most likely reference points in the bespoke 2015 Lagonda are the D-pillar shape and glasshouse, which is more faithful a revamp than the current Rapide S.

A chopped and simplified vertical grille and nose bring the light elements low and part of the front face, versus on the uppermost corner edges.

The 2015 Lagonda is a limited-run model of perhaps 300-400 models – and not a replacement for the Rapide S yet.

More details and photos as they become available..

ASTON MARTIN CONFIRMS BESPOKE SUPER SALOON: THE FINEST OF FAST CARS

  • Exclusive super saloon sees return of evocative Lagonda nameplate

  • Innovative special project champions exclusivity

  • Strictly limited series production from early 2015

25 July 2014, Gaydon: Aston Martin is today confirming a bespoke product programme for a new super saloon that will see the revival of the historic Lagonda nameplate in a strictly limited series.

As has traditionally been the case, the Lagonda badge will once again sit proudly on a luxurious and exclusive super saloon.

The stunning luxury super saloon revives the Lagonda ethos of ‘the finest of fast cars’ and will be offered exclusively in the Middle East, as a result of specific market demand.

The return of Lagonda follows in the wake of other headline-grabbing projects such as the One-77 hypercar, V12 Zagato and last year’s CC100 Speedster Concept – then seen as the ultimate Q by Aston Martin car – which started out simply as a centenary celebration design concept and, as a result of exceptional demand, later turned into two customer commissions.

Based on the brand’s existing flexible VH architecture, the new car draws inspiration from the highly sought-after William Towns-designed Lagonda of 1976 and features many of the same cutting edge engineering techniques seen in modern Aston Martin sports cars such as the use of carbon fibre in the body panels.

It will be hand-built by the finest craftsmen and women at Aston Martin’s modern manufacturing facilities in Gaydon, Warwickshire in a dedicated building previously given over to the creation of the One-77 hypercar.

The new super saloon will be offered for sale by invitation only and, while precise pricing details remain confidential, the asking price will be commensurate with the car’s exclusivity, quality and luxurious nature.

Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman said: “The debut of this luxury super saloon in the Middle East market will be an exciting moment not only for Aston Martin, but for discerning customers who are seeking the ultimate in luxury and personalisation.

“The new model, like its exclusive siblings the One-77 and V12 Zagato, has been created as a piece of exceptional automotive art. It has been designed and developed entirely in keeping with the spirit and ethos of previous Lagonda super saloons – notably the William Towns Lagonda – and as a tribute to this car it proudly bears the Lagonda nameplate.”
