INFINITI Q80 Inspiration Previews Gorgeous and Fascinating S-Class Competitor

One popular design cliche is to describe the panel shapes of a model as ‘like flowing silk.’ The idea is to be lighter than air, and always in motion with ripples and elegant movement at all times.

Far beyond cliche, the new Q80 Inspiration makes the idea real.A rare achievement, to be sure, and very exciting.

Freeze that wind-swept silk in time, and it carries the beauty of motion even as a static piece.

That is how we would describe the latest panel shaping theme shown in the new Q80 Inspiration, which is officially set to become a production model in the future. Sitting atop the new Q70L in the Infiniti model range, the 2016 or 2017 Q80 limousine’s design will try to bring this silky essence to the roads in a few years.

The rear canopy and glass forms an interesting point in this concept, which is not unlike a speedboat’s hull shape in profile. New shapes also appear in the roofline around a very interesting D-piillar design and inflected kink of the side glasshouse.

Very promising!  See where Infiniti flagships have their roots via the below article, plus read the official details on thew Q80 Inspiration from Infiniti of Europe.

Infiniti Q80 Inspiration: The Premium Progressive

03/09/14

Hong Kong/Paris – At 15:30, Thursday, October 2nd, 2014, Hall 5 of the Parc des Expositions de Versailles in Paris, Infiniti shows a concept car that foreshadows an audacious top-of-the-line model.

Named Q80 Inspiration, the intent of the low-slung, ingeniously aggressive four-passenger fastback is to demonstrate to the premium world just how Infiniti aims to play its part.

Its very dimensions place the Q80 Inspiration clearly at the peak of the Infiniti range.

A flashpoint for the company’s intuitive human-centric style and onboard technological ambition, the Q80 Inspiration long-legged fastback proves that Infiniti intends to drive in and disturb the status quo.

You’ll see complete featured details first-hand on October 2nd, when all will be revealed. To repeat: à bientôt.

As we prepare for the upcoming Infiniti Q80 Inspiration concept’s debut in Paris, how about a look back at the springboard ideas that led to the first flagship, the Q45 of 1990.

The 1985 Cue-X concept from Nissan shares clear details with what became the Q45 from all angles, but especially in profile. This low and lean shape was far less formal than the competition from Lexus in the LS400, as well as the established players like Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

It is fascinating to see the inspiration for the original Q, and the low and flowing style shown by the Cue-X is certainly a part of the upcoming Q80 Inspiration. This model is billed as a sleek four-seat fastback — which strongly points to a four-door coupe in our book.
